DLMS Seminar
21 September 13.00 - 17.30
  IEC 62056 DLMS/COSEM – a core standard for interoperable smart metering systems

This workshop provides an insight to the latest developments in smart metering standardization, and the role of the DLMS/COSEM specification (IEC 62056 / EN 13737-1). It gives a comprehensive understanding on how the needs of multi-utility, interoperable smart metering systems can be specified and how these needs can be meet by using DLMS/COSEM. The principles of data modelling, messaging data and exchange will be presented with examples.

The process of adapting the standards to meet the requirements identified for mass application of smart meters and AMI will be presented. It will be also shown how interoperability can be achieved using the standard building blocks of DLMS/COSEM.

Who should attend:
People active in specifying, designing, supplying and operating smart metering systems and automated metering infrastructures.

By attending this workshop you will:
- Understand the need for international standards for interoperable meter data exchange;
- Understand, via practical examples, the main concepts of DLMS/COSEM;
- Get an insight into latest developments;
- Receive guidelines for specifying and operating DLMS/COSEM metering systems;
- Understand the conformance testing process;
- Obtain an overview of DLMS/COSEM based projects and product offering.

Your workshop leader:
Gyozo Kmethy is the President of the DLMS User Association since 2000 and leads the DLMS UA Maintenance working group and the Project Team Power Line Carrier. He regularly provides training and consulting on IEC 62056 on behalf of the DLMS UA. He also contributes to Metering International and gives papers on metering conferences worldwide.

Smart Metering Security Seminar

21 September 13.00 - 17.30
Large scale deployments of smart metering are either planned or in progress throughout Europe. As experience builds, lessons are being learned about the many aspects of security that must be addressed, not just with respect to technical matters, but also with strategic and operational matters.

Strategically, smart metering implementation programmes must consider the public perception of and reaction to security concerns, particularly around data ownership and privacy. Amongst other issues, the relationship between smart metering and the smart grid must also be considered with respect to security. These matters are being addressed by governments, regulators and utilities throughout Europe.

Technically, smart metering solutions must satisfy requirements for security and data privacy on an end-to-end basis in order to provide an infrastructure which is highly resilient to privacy threats. However, as an operational infrastructure it must also be highly resilient to security threats to its integrity and availability. It must also be designed and delivered such that it has the capability for security posture to be maintained as the threat landscape evolves over time.

Operationally, ongoing management of security of the smart metering infrastructure becomes a prime concern as deployment projects are delivered. Management controls are required to provide security assurance of operational activities of human resources and third parties, and to ensure robust policies and procedures for protection from, detection of and response to security incidents. Utilities and their service providers are actively dealing with these challenges.

KEMA is proud to host this seminar covering the strategic, technical and operational aspects of smart metering security, which will feature a number of key experts and practitioners in these areas. The speakers will explore the major issues and the lessons learned to date across Europe and beyond.
